KATE HENKE

Tango Magdalena proudly presents KATE HENKE as our Student of the Month of January 2010.

Kate started Tango from scratch just some 6 months ago. It's a pleasure to see her dance with advanced dancers at the milongas.

Kate is a very generous individual who has been very active in helping us with many different things in the studio, from catering to setting up, decorating; always ready to offer an improving idea and her energy to implement it.

Kate Henke is a graphic designer who has recently found a passion for tango. Nearly 30 years a resident of the SF Bay Area, this mid-westerner considers herself--by now--a native. Her early training in classical ballet set the stage for a deep interest in dance exploration. "Nothing stirs my spirit like dance," says Kate, who has practiced many forms including folk dance, mystical/spiritual dance , African, Jazz, 5Rythms, and Salsa. Nearly 2 decades of yoga with martial arts training have also provided a sensitivity, strength and suppleness suited to tango.

"When I am moving in harmony with a partner improvisation between two becomes possible. There are moments where a deep human connection--in meditation, in movement--can be experienced. I consider tango the highest, purest form of Tantra. The dancer, when aiming at this perfect union, can--at times--forget the self and the two can become one, duality is dissolved. This is when tango become exquisite, mysterious, and even mystical."

"The great part about it is that the perfection of tango can never be achieved, this is why I will be dancing tango until the day I die!

Bravo Kate!!!!!!

We love your Tango journey!
