Ville Hiltula ( bandoneón ) and Maho Nabeshima ( piano ) is an international tango duo from the San Francisco Bay Area in which two talented musicians puts its marks on the tango tradition.

Coming from diverse musical and cultural backgrounds these two musicians unite their collective experience and talents to provide tango music with a contemporary personal vision without forgetting all the traditions of this wonderful music.

Duo´s repertoire covers a wide range of different tango styles. Having an extensive collection of old traditional danceable tango and tango nuevo in its repertoire they also like to push the borders of traditional tango music by playing contemporary newly written music.

Ville Hiltula ( Finland ) is a founder member of Cuarteto El Orillero ( bandoneón, violin, piano & doublebass - Rotterdam, The Netherlands ) and contemporary tango ensemble Perrito Caliente ( bandoneón & string quartet - Paris, France ). He has also been playing together with Carel Kraayenhof y su Sexteto Canyengue since 2005 ( The Netherlands ).

Mr. Hiltula has performed in Buenos Aires in Argentina ( VIII Festival de Tango Buenos Aires, Teatro Alvear, Teatro San Martin, Casa del Tango, Congreso National de Buenos Aires, Teatro de la Ribera, Carapachay, Confiteria Ideal, La Viruta ), Spain, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Luxemburg, Germany, UK, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Russia, Japan, USA. He has collaborated with many renowned tango artists such as Roberto Alverez y su Color Tango, Alfredo Marcucci, Victor Hugo Villena, Gustavo Beytelmann, Leonardo Sanchez, Pablo Agri, and also played together with pop groups Blof and Nuspirit Helsinki. He has  also been playing as a soloist for Astor Piazzolla`s tango opera Maria de Buenos Aires, which was performed all over Belgium during the season 2005-2006 together with Musiques Nouvelles ensemble. Mr. Hiltula also works with Aurelia Saxophone Quartet and the Argentinean pianist Juan Pablo Dobal in the project Nuevo Encuentro.

Ville Hiltula studied bandoneón and Argentinean tango four years ( 2002-2006 ) in The Netherlands at The Rotterdam Conservatory`s tango department under Leo Vervelde, Wim Warman, Victor Hugo Villena and Gustavo Beytelmann.

Maho Nabeshima, piano ( www.mahonabeshima.com )

Maho Nabeshima has given solo and chamber music recitals in Japan, Germany and the United States. Most recently, she gave a flute and piano duo recital in the Weill Recital Hall at Carngie Hall.  She was a featured pianist on the Steinway Society Concert Series in Pittsburgh, PA, the Walden School Concert Series in Dublin, New Hampshire, as well as on the Liszt Gala Concert hosted by the American Liszt Society in San Francisco, CA.

Ms. Nabeshima has also performed live on WQED Pittsburgh. The Pittsburgh Post Gazette said of her world premiere of Alan Fletcher’s Second Romance at the U3 Music Festival, “Pianist Maho Nabeshima infused the work with a lambent tone, giving the work’s subtext, ‘looking back to an idealized time’, both the warmth and bittersweet flavor of nostalgia”. Ms. Nabeshima has also performed as a soloist with the Essex Symphony Orchestra in Andover, Massachusetts.

CD recordings include “Tateno Family Romantic Concert” by fontec label and “The Voice Outside” with flutist Peg Cornils Luke.

Maho Nabeshima has served on the faculty of the School of Music at Carnegie Mellon University, Carnegie Mellon University’s preparatory school, the Colburn School of Performing Arts and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music preparatory division.

Ms. Nabeshima received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in piano performance from New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, and an Artist Diploma from Carnegie Mellon University. She is also a member of Pi Kappa Lambda
